SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company's Marine division has an opening for a Shore-based Tankerman based out of the Texas City, TX area. This position will report to the Marine Operations Area Supervisor. The Tankerman position is an on-call position and the Tankerman must respond within one hour of notification as to readiness for work. This position works in all weather conditions, both day and night as the job assignment requires. The Tankerman must be able to work safely and independently in remote locations while maintaining motivation to effectively and efficiently complete the job. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities for this position include conducting barge transfers based on Marathon’s procedures and all applicable USCG regulations/guidelines; troubleshooting barges, performing minor maintenance on barges; and being proficient in all phases of barge transfers, including heater operation on hot oil barges. In addition, the position must maintain records and document all transfer times to be turned into the office in a timely manner. The Tankerman must maintain uniforms and equipment necessary for transfers in good, clean condition so as to be ready and available for each barge transfer. The Tankerman will at times conduct transfer audits on third-party Tankermen and assist in training of new Tankermen. The Tankerman will interface with Marathon Marine’s customers and must do so in accordance with Marathon policies/procedures.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
The qualified applicant must have a high school diploma or GED.
Driving is an essential function of the job, and a Valid Driver's License is required.
The qualified applicant must have their own mode of dependable transportation. They must be able to travel to work locations via that transportation and via boat ride up to, but not limited to, a 150-mile radius of the listed location of Texas City, TX.
They must maintain a valid Merchant Marine Credential (MMC) with Tankerman PIC and Barge DL endorsement, and a TWIC card.
Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are critical to this position.
