**Liability Claims Adjuster**
**Location:** Mason, MI, US **Dart has the ability to hire at the mid-level or senior level for this position.**
The Liability Claims Adjuster is responsible for partnering with our third party claims administrator and insurers in directing the claim investigation process. This includes evaluating claims with respect to liability, causation and damages; developing a resolution strategy; and fairly and equitably bringing claims to closure. This position primarily focuses on general liability, product liability, auto liability, cargo claims, and property claims brought against the company, but may also include workers compensation.
**Day-to-Day Role:**
* Work in conjunction with the third party administrator (TPA), assuring that they have the information for contacts and that the Customer Service instructions are followed regarding interviews, review of records of claimants, witnesses, physicians, attorneys, police officers, etc. to secure necessary information and determine extent of company's liability
* Review available insurance policies to verify applicable coverage and limits
* Monitor the TPA file for appropriate and well developed action plans for timely and cost effective resolution of claims according to company practices and procedures
* Establish and maintain accurate reserves and related financial information within authority limits
* Establish and maintain electronic diaries for timely follow up of claim activities
* Thoroughly document all work activity and records in RiskConsole (claims software system for Property and Cargo claims). Attach documents to TPA system to maintain paperless claim files.
* Coordinate with Quality Control personnel for timely and appropriate product testing to (1) confirm the product manufacturer and (2) thoroughly test, inspect, and evaluate the product to verify whether or not any defects in the product may have contributed to the incident
* Manage litigated claims in coordination with both in-house and external counsel according to company practices and procedures
* Resolve claims promptly and equitably. Ensure releases, proofs of loss or compensation agreements, and dismissals are documented in the file prior to closure.
* Develop and maintain professional working relationships with existing vendors (attorney firms, investigation companies, etc.) and establish new relationships as needed
* Comprehend and apply multiple state laws and procedures as applicable to management of claims
* Participate in monthly/quarterly claim review meetings
* Assist in compilation and analysis of claims data for various internal and external reporting
* Assist manager in developing comprehensive, streamlined guidelines and procedures for handling claims
* Attend conferences and training sessions (internal and external) as assigned by manager
**Core Skills and Qualifications:**
The ideal mid-level Liability Claims Adjuster must possess the following:
* Requires one of the following:
+ Bachelors degree and two (2) years of liability claims experience, OR
+ High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of liability claims experience
The ideal Senior Liability Claims Adjuster must possess the following:
* Requires one of the following:
+ Bachelors degree and four (4) years of liability claims experience, OR
+ High school diploma or equivalent and seven (7) years of liability claims experience
Both levels must possess the following:
* Comprehensive knowledge of and experience investigating, managing and resolving all types of complex liability claims, including litigated claims
* Demonstrated ability in handling complaints, resolving conflicts and negotiating with others
* Demonstrated knowledge of advanced industry terminology and a working knowledge of claims software systems
* Demonstrated knowledge of multi-state liability laws and best practices
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization
* Ability to utilize business sense and creativity to develop new ideas and solutions
* Organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
* Ability to collaborate with team members
* Ability to travel up to 10% domestic travel locally and overnight
* Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license
* Requires a favorable motor vehicle report upon hire
