Position Overview: Aptiv is embarking on an exciting initiative to establish a pioneering service for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and we are seeking an innovative Disability Higher Education Program Administrator to lead this effort. This role will spearhead the creation and development of two pivotal programs: a pre-college summer program tailored for 8th through transition-age high school students aged 14-21, and a consulting service aimed at preparing and supporting students with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in their pursuit of postsecondary education. As the leader of both programs, you will play a crucial role in shaping inclusive education practices, ensuring accessibility, and advocating for students' rights following IECA and HECA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities: 1. Individualized Consultation:
- Conduct thorough assessments of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to identify their unique strengths, challenges, and support needs.
- Collaborate with students, families, educators, and other stakeholders to develop personalized transition plans for accessing and succeeding in higher education.
- Provide ongoing guidance and advocacy to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations and support services in colleges of their choice.
2. College Selection and Admission Support:
- Assist students and families in researching, selecting, and applying to colleges and universities that offer inclusive programs and support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Provide guidance on navigating the college admissions process, including completing applications, preparing for interviews, and submitting necessary documentation related to disability accommodations.
3. Transition Planning and Support:
- Facilitate smooth transitions from secondary education to postsecondary settings by coordinating with educators, transition specialists, and college disability support staff.
- Help students develop self-advocacy skills, executive functioning strategies, and independent living skills necessary for college success.
- Create a peer mentor component and recruit, hire, and retain peer mentors to work with students on campuses to support students in resident halls, academics, and social networking.
4. Collaboration and Networking:
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with college disability services offices, faculty members, administrators, and community organizations to enhance support systems for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Participate in professional development activities, conferences, and workshops related to disability services, inclusive education, and higher education policy.
5. Advocacy and Outreach:
- Advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in higher education settings, including promoting policy changes and awareness campaigns.
- Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about college opportunities for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families within the community.
6. Pre-College Summer Program Support:
- Create a pre-college summer program for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Provide consultation and guidance to program administrators on creating inclusive environments and implementing effective support services.
- Assist students and families in enrolling in the pre-college summer program based on their interests and needs.
- Facilitate transitions from pre-college summer programs to postsecondary education, ensuring continuity of support and resources.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, disability studies, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Certification as an educational consultant or licensure in special education counseling preferred or obtained within 1 year.
- Membership and adherence to the ethical standards of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) are strongly preferred or obtained within 1 year.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in educational or transition settings, preferably in a college or university environment.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws governing disability rights and accommodations in higher education, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, educators, and college personnel.
- Sensitivity to the needs and experiences of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
