SAIC has an opening for a  Defense Technical Writing Intern to support the Software Development Team onsite at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

NOTE:  This internship is year-round, onsite at Redstone Arsenal, AL (flexible ~20 hours a week)

JOB DUTIES:

• Develop an understanding of the software capabilities
• Effectively communicate with other project team members to compose user guides and reference manuals
• Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit manuals to include technical specifications as well as such things as graphs, graphics, and tables
• Secure feedback/approval and edit/refine as required
• Analyze, interpret, and simplify technical, operational information in a manner tailored for each document’s intended audience
• Plan, estimate, and manage the publication readiness and delivery of written documents in accordance with program/project requirements
• Revise document drafts, verifying technical content, and ensuring correct grammar
• Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content and enforce document version control

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

• Currently enrolled in a writing-intensive field (e.g., English, Marketing, communication, journalism, or related field) and two (2) years of college or work-related experience

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Some experience in grammar, writing, copy editing skills, and technical writing experience
• Willing to learn how to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them into clear, easy-to-understand content
• General understanding of networks, databases, and information security
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Ability to thrive in both team and self-managed environments
• Willingness to meet strict timelines and deliverables
• Strong MS Office Suite skills

REQUIRED CLEARANCE:

• Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance (US Citizenship). Some programs may allow for Intern to start without clearance (active clearance preferred)
