Job Description

Salary: $18.07/hour

ABOUT THE CENTER
The Center for Biological Diversity, a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, believes the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature — to the existence of a vast diversity of wild animals, plants and people. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law, activism and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that humans, other species and all communities need to survive and thrive.

We want those who come after us to inherit a world where the wild is still alive.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Center for Biological Diversity’s Southwest program seeks motivated and organized interns dedicated to protecting biodiversity and preventing species extinctions. Interns will work with Center scientists to gain protections for imperiled species. The internship is paid and will provide valuable experience with one of the nation’s most consequential environmental organizations. This position will last approximately 4-6 months (exact length to be negotiated), can be full- or part-time, and can either be remote or located at our office in Tucson (AZ).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, compile, and synthesize information from the scientific literature and government publications.
  • Compose technical documents to gain new or uphold existing federal protection for endangered species.
  • Compose documents to support legal or campaign work to protect endangered species from threats.
  • Coordinate tasks with Center scientists and other staff as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree in conservation biology, environmental science, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent internet and library research skills using scholarly databases and online tools.
  • Excellent organization and computer skills.
  • Proficiency in conservation biology and biology concepts and terminology.
  • Proficiency in common software like Word and Excel.
  • A passion for and knowledge of protecting biodiversity.
