Position Summary

The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University seeks a passionate educator and experienced actor or director with a strong commitment to undergraduate conservatory training to join its dynamic faculty. The successful candidate will bring expertise in acting pedagogy, a demonstrated ability to inspire young artists, and a record of professional engagement in the field.

Responsibilities:

Primary load responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate acting courses that support CCPA’s undergraduate degree offerings for acting and music theatre students, with a focus on scene study, character and script analysis, and contemporary and 20th-century drama. The successful candidate will bring expertise in Stanislavski-based training, incorporating methodologies from Michael Shurtleff, Uta Hagen, and Michael Chekhov. They will also provide instruction in voice and speech development, drawing from techniques such as Linklater, Rodenburg, and Knight-Thompson. In addition to classroom teaching, the faculty member will direct departmental productions, mentor students in their artistic and professional development, and contribute to curriculum innovation. Active engagement in creative and/or scholarly work is expected, as well as participation in faculty service, including recruitment, auditions, and committee work. The successful candidate will be expected to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment reflective of Roosevelt University’s founding commitment to

social justice, as well as best practices in contemporary theatre education.

The salary range for this position is $52-$54K, commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or (MA) Master of Arts in Acting, Theatre Performance, Directing; bachelor’s degree considered along with significant, documented professional industry experience;
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the college level;
  • Strong knowledge of Stanislavski-based training; familiarity with the methodologies of Michael Shurtleff, Uta Hagen, and Michael Chekhov.
  • Demonstrated experience directing theatrical productions at the collegiate level;
  • Familiarity with established techniques in professional voice and speech development, such as Linklater, Rodenburg, and Knight-Thompson;
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse artistic environment;
  • Potential for scholarly or creative contributions to the field, as well as engagement in departmental and university service.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience as an actor, director, etc. in a major market in the United States;
  • Experience with on-camera acting, movement training, or devised theatre;
  • Professional affiliations (e.g., Equity, SAG-AFTRA, SDC);
  • Experience in new play development or interdisciplinary collaboration.



Equipment Operated

Standard office technology (copier, scanner, computer) and studio environment.



Working Conditions

Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds)
