GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Airport Duty Manager, Airport Operations Supervisor or higher authority, this position participates in the inspection of airfield facilities including airport grounds, parking facilities, terminal buildings, runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, gate assignments, and vehicle service roads to assure safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, and fuel facilities for hazards to assure compliance with the Airport Certification Manual and FAA Part 139, coordinates with appropriate parties for corrective actions
  • Issues NOTAMS and other airfield advisories to provide situational awareness of operating environment
  • Monitors airfield safety and security; coordinates, reports, and ensures necessary corrective actions are taken
  • Collaborate with FAA Air Traffic Control facility regarding aircraft operations
  • Coordinates and monitors airfield construction activities for compliance with applicable FAA and TSA rules and regulations; reports violations to appropriate parties
  • Interprets, assists, and enforces airport rules and regulations, policies and procedures, and local airport ordinance
  • Supports the Airport Duty Manager or Incident Commander during crisis situations, aircraft accidents and incidents, natural disasters, inclement weather events, and security incidents
  • Coordinates airport operations with users, tenants, stakeholders, and government agencies (FAA, TSA, CBP, USDA, NCDOT)
  • Responds to environmental hazards; coordinates cleanup efforts with emergency response agencies, tenants, contractors, and airlines
  • Monitors, coordinates, and assists with the implementation of the Snow and Ice Control Plan on airport property
  • Monitors and disseminates inclement or severe weather conditions
  • Assist in coordinating special functions and events such as VIP and special aircraft movements, repatriations, medical evacuations, emergency drills, etc.
  • Inspects airport property for policy, safety, and security compliance; recommends and takes corrective actions
  • Responds to various incidents with some incidents requiring investigations and reports
  • Provides immediate information to the Airport Duty Manager or on call Communications, Government & Community Affairs employee in support of media requests
  • Performs additional related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, airport management or related field OR equivalent related work experience

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in airport operations

Licenses or Certifications:

Required:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain movement and non-movement driver certification within 3 months of employment
  • AAAE ASOS Basic ( required or must obtain within 12 months of hire)
  • AAAE ASOS Advanced ( required or must obtain within 24 months of hire)
  • ICS 100 and 200 ( required or must obtain within 12 months of hire)
  • OSHA 10-hour course ( required or must obtain within 12 months of hire)

  • Read and understand technical materials, reports, and FAA Advisory Circulars
  • Efficiently allocate cognitive resources to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks
  • Operate airport operations vehicles and operate two-way and VHF radios, mobile telephones, personal computers, and wildlife pyrotechnics
  • Read, write, understand, and speak English fluently
  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts to include daytime, nighttime, weekends, and holidays
  • May be required to work unscheduled hours or recalled for unforeseen emergency situations
